Exporting and Importing Quizzes

A safe way to move questions from one course to another is using the export/import technique.
Be aware that the whole quiz is not moved, just the questions from the original course question bank to the destination course question bank. With XML files, the category is also transferred.
Exporting Questions
1. On your source course, click on the Quiz link.

2. In the activity menu, click on the Questions item.

3. Click on one of the questions to open its description screen.

4. Locate the Question's category name in the General section and copy it or write it down.

5.Scroll upwards and click on the Question bank link.

6. In the Question bank's, drop-down button "Questions", click and then select Export.

7. In the Export questions to file section, choose Moodle XML format.
8. In the General section, choose the appropriate category.

9. Click on the Export questions to file button.
10. An Opening questions pop-up appears. Ensure it is set to Save file. Then click on the OK button.

11. Save the file to your device.
Note: Make a note where you have saved this XML file.
Importing questions
1. On the destination course, click on the More link.

2. Click on the Question bank option in the drop-down menu.
3. In the Drop-down button "Questions", click and then select Import.

4. In the File format section, Choose Moodle XML format.

5. In the Import questions from file, locate the exported file from the above section and upload it from your device.
6. Ensure that it is an XML file, then click on the Import button.

7. On the Import screen, imported questions appear in text format. Click on the Continue button.

8. The Category and questions appear in the destination course.

9. The imported questions are now ready to be added to a quiz.
Adding Imported Questions to a Quiz
It is a recommended practice to prepare questions in the Question bank and then add them to an avenue quiz.
1. Ensure that Edit mode is ON.

2. Choose the location of the new quiz, click on the Add icon.

3. Choose Activity or resource in the menu that appears.

4. In the menu, choose the Quiz icon.

5. Add details for the quiz including the title. After this, click on the Save and Display button.
6. In the quiz editor, click on the Add Question button.

7. On the Questions screen, click on the Add link to reveal a drop-down menu, Click on the from question bank item.

8. In the pop-up, click on the Match Search box, and then choose the appropriate category.

9. Click on the Apply filters button.

10. Choose the questions that you want in the quiz by checking the box beside their name.
11. Click on the Add selected questions to the quiz button.

12. Order and paginate the quiz questions. Ensure teh points total matches the Maximum grade at the top of the screen.
13. Click on the Save button.
14. In the activity menu, choose Quiz.
15. Preview the Quiz. (It should be ready for learners.)
