Tutela is both an open and closed repository and community. This means that it is closed to the outside world but the community and learning objects in it are open to all members who join. 


To participate and use Tutela, you need to create an account. 


There are two options.  

  1. with your Avenue account
  2. create an account with another email address


Advantages of creating a Tutela account with your Avenue email credential are:

  • you can
    choose whether to log in with your Avenue or Tutela credentials
  • you can locate Tutela learning objects and add them to your course within Avenue itself (tie saver)
  • one less email password to remember

The account is free to create once you complete the process. The Tutela team will verify the information and approve the account. This approval process typically takes around 24 hours.

Accessing the Tutela Page

Note: There are two ways to access the Tutela website.


A. Click on the Tutela link on Avenue.ca to go to the Tutela website.



B. Or use your web browser to go to https://tutela.ca/ directly.


Register with your Avenue Account

1. Click the Register button.



2. Click on the Register with your Avenue.ca account button.



Note: The Avenue log-in page appears.

3. Log in to Avenue using your Avenue username and password.

Note: The Tutela registration page reappears.



4. From the Which description best describes your current ESL/EFL role? drop-down, select one of the options.



5. Type your organization name in the Name of Organization field.

6. Enter your job title in the Position field.

7. Select your province or territory from the Province/Territory drop-down.



8. Enter your First Name and Last Name.



Note: Your email address will be pre-filled because this information was transferred from Avenue.



9. Enter your password and confirm it by entering it again below. The form will let you know if your password doesn't match.



10. Read and accept the Terms of Use by checking the I have accepted the Terms of Use checkbox.


11. Click on the Register button.



Register with an Email Account (Not your Avenue Account)


1. Click the Register button near the top right corner.



3. Answer the question prompts for Step 1 of the registration process, then read the information and fill in the fields for Step 2.


Note: Only Canadian ESL/FSL professionals are currently accepted into Tutela. 

4. Choose the best description of your current ESL/EFL Role. 


5. Type the Name of your organization, your Position and select your Province or Territory.


6. Click on the Next Step button to continue.

Note: Your province or territory, work and job information will help other members of Tutela network with you.

Answer the question prompts for Step 3 of the registration process.

Fill Out the Mandatory Information

1. Enter your First Name and Last Name.



2. Enter your Email. You can use either a work or personal email account.



3. Enter a Username. 

Note: This is the Username you will use when you log in to Tutela.

4. Enter your password and confirm it by entering it again below. The form will let you know if your password doesn’t match.


Terms of Use Agreement

1. Read and accept the Terms of Use by checking the I have accepted the Terms of Use checkbox.


Finalize the Registration

1. Click on the Register button found at the bottom of the form.



If you have any errors in the form, Tutela will let you know so that you can make the proper adjustments.

Note: Once your registration is complete and your account is created, you can choose whether to log in with your Avenue or Tutela credentials.
