BigBlueButton (BBB)

BigBlueButton lets you meet your teacher and classmates online. You can listen, type messages, speak using your microphone, and use your webcam to share video.

Select the BigBlueButton activity in your course.

The session page opens. When the session has started, select Join session.

Microphone Audio Sharing

Your browser may ask permission to use your microphone. Allow access to continue.

Select Microphone to speak during the session.
Locate the microphone icon at the bottom of the BBB presentation window towards the middle and click on ^ to list your audio devices.

Choose your microphone and speaker options if needed. Speak to test your audio.

Once you have selected your audio devices you can click on the microphone icon to unmute yourself when it is your turn to speak.

To mute yourself select the microphone icon again.

Webcam Video Sharing

Select the Share webcam icon if your teacher asks you to use your camera.

Your browser may ask permission to use your camera. Allow access to continue.

Choose your webcam settings and select Start sharing.

You are now ready for the online classroom.

Use the microphone and webcam icons at the bottom of the screen to turn audio and video on or off.

Participants appear in the session. The person speaking is identified by highlighting their window in a blue outline.

The Presenter icon is present in the upper left hand corner of the presenter's window.

Users List

All participants (Users) appear in the User list in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

If the User list is not visible click on the "User list toggle" to reveal the drawer.

Select your name to mute or unmute yourself, or set your status or use reactions such as raising your hand. Select another person’s name to start a private chat.

The side panel includes Chat, Shared Notes, and Users.

Public Chat

Use Public Chat to type messages that everyone can see.

Your name will appear with what you type. Your teacher may ask questions in the chat, or put internet
links for you in this space.

Your sent message will appear in the Public chat panel.

You may reply to messages, react to messages, as well as edit or delete your own messages.

When you react to a message an emoji search window will pop up allowing you to select the desired emoji.

Click on your reaction to remove it.

You may edit your message.

You may also delete your message and you will be prompted with a warning to confirm prior to deleting it permanently.

Private Chat

You can start a private chat with another participant by selecting their name from the "Users" list and then clicking on "Start a private chat"

Your private chats will appear below the Public Chat showing the name and icon of the participant you are communicating with.

Shared Notes

Use Shared Notes to collaborate on notes. Export them when finished.

This is the place for you and your classmates to type notes that you want to

share with each other about what the teacher is saying

Meeting Reactions

Select the reactions icon to raise your hand or choose other reactions.

Raise your Hand

You will find a "Raise your hand" button in the bottom right hand corner next to the presentation window button.

When you raise your hand a hand icon will be visible in Users list as well as in your video window. There is a number displayed in the middle of the hand to indicate the order in which hands were raised.

Leave the Meeting

When you are ready to leave the meeting you can click on the red button ([->) in the upper right hand corner.

A secondary button will appear that says "Leave session" click on this to confirm your exit.

A pop will confirm that you have exited the meeting.
Click OK to go back to the meeting page in Avenue.
